Tell me how you first got involved in with BCSC. When I first got here my friend a member of BCSC encouraged me to join. I was also intrigued about an annual trip to Poland that was arranged by BCSC. I goggled it on line and next thing you know I am volunteering, going to their monthly luncheon, going on several of their trips, and subsequently putting my name in for a position on the board.
When you last volunteered, how did that make you feel? My feeling word would be fortunate. I feel like it’s my duty to give back to any community my family and myself are part of. I try to instill in my kids and grand kids that it is always better to give. Two of the most priceless things you can give are your time and yourself and I am very fortunate that I can give both.
What's it like to be a volunteer for BCSC? Volunteering with the BCSC is very rewarding and encouraging. It’s personally rewarding because it gives me an outlet to be productive and engaged in the community. Its also encouraging to see how such a small group of volunteers give up so much of their time and talents to make Grafenwoehr and Vilseck a better community.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering? Without hesitation I simply would say do it. It will be an experience they will never forget nor regret.
What do you wish other people knew about BCSC? There are two things I wish people knew about BCSC. One that it’s not only for spouse, so don’t shy away because the perception is that you have to be married or that’s it’s only a group for spouses. Community is often lost in BCSC when people refer to us. We invite and encourage the community to become members and participate in the many subs groups, events, trips, and luncheon that we offer. Second I feel that not many people are aware how much of an impact BCSC makes in the community. If you have a child at any of the schools in Graf or Vilseck, more than likely with one our grants we were able to impact them. If you attended a unit ball, organization day, or even team building event, we have assisted.
Tell me about someone who has influenced your decision to work with BCSC? No one in particular influenced me, although my husband is very supportive, and very understanding of my position with the BCSC.
What might (someone) be surprised to know about you? That English is my third language and it was the hardest one for me to learn.
How would (someone) describe you? I think at first and not knowing me some might describe me as being stern and standoffish but once they really know me they would describe me as funny and bighearted.
What do you do when you aren't volunteering? I think about 90 percent of my time is consumed with volunteering. If not with BCSC its cooking at the USO, helping with 1 – 91 CAV FRG events, and helping with different events at the Vilseck High School. I do love to read, travel and take pictures and try to do as much as I can of all three when I have time.
What else can you tell me about BCSC? BCSC is a great organization that is often overlooked by others in the community. It is amazing to see how much of an impact the BCSC makes and knowing that what we do has a rippling effect to support and connect so many people.
